ADL Nevada’s Community Response to Las Vegas FBI Arrest of White Supremacist

Thursday, August 8, Las Vegas FBI arrested a 23-year-old male.  During the arrest agents found guns, ammunition, and bombmaking materials in his home. As stated in the criminal complaint filed, a target list was found that included a gay nightclub, a synagogue, and the ADL Nevada office, all in Las Vegas.

The Nevada regional office of the Anti-Defamation League and Jewish Nevada have been in close contact with law enforcement. ADL requested additional police patrols and a heightened alert status around all shabbat services. This was immediately approved by local police. We are grateful for the diligent work of FBI agents, local officers and police departments of Nevada for all that they are doing.

At this time, it is our understanding that there is no known threat to the Jewish community as it relates to the recent arrest.

“We take security very seriously and will continue to be vigilant when it comes to the safety of our community,” said Stefanie Tuzman, President and CEO of Jewish Nevada, noting “Our Jewish Federation is working closely with our local ADL and with the Jewish Federation of North America’s Secure Community Network, to ensure every precaution is taken.”

Nationally, ADL and the Secure Community Network (SCN) are in contact with the FBI, federal law enforcement and our national partners to monitor the situation and will continue to work closely with them and the community.

Jolie Brislin, ADL Nevada Regional Director commented, “With the documented rise of anti-Semitism, homophobia and hatred, as well as following just days after the deadliest white supremacist attack in the last 50 years, this arrest is a harsh reminder that Las Vegas is not immune to racist ideology and it’s horrific violence. This arrest clearly prevented more tragedy for vulnerable communities.”

Everyone has a role to play when it comes to communal security. Members of the community are encouraged to remain situationally aware and report any suspicious activity, observed either in person or online, to law enforcement.

Thank You,

Jolie Brislin
