ADL Nevada Thanks Clark County Board of Commissioners for Presenting Proclamation on Condemning Hate and Extremism

LAS VEGAS (February 3, 2021) Anti-Defamation League Nevada (ADL) thanks The Clark County Board of Commissioners for presenting a proclamation condemning hate and extremism and denouncing the January 6 domestic terrorism incident at our nation’s Capital.

The proclamation denounces anti-government extremism, white supremacy, racism, antisemitism, misogyny, Islamophobia, anti-LGBTQ+ hate, ableism, and all hateful speech and bias-motivated violent actions in our community and denounces extremist conspiracy theories, misinformation, and disinformation that undermine democratic institutions and processes, and increase the likelihood of violence.

The proclamation affirms Clark County, NV’s commitment to rejecting hateful speech and actions and countering hate and extremism by all means including education and prevention, condemnation, and accountability, and urging our communities to champion democratic values.

“We thank Commissioner Mike Naft for bringing this issue to the forefront and applaud the Clark County Board of Commissioners’ strong rejection of hate and extremism,” said ADL Nevada Regional Director Jolie Brislin.  “We commend Nevada’s commitment to the safety and well-being of all its constituents. Nevada is not immune to extremism. We have seen the increased presence from Boogaloo Boys, Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, 3%ers, and others extremist groups and must remain vigilant. ADL Nevada looks forward to continuing to work closely with the Clark County Board of Commissioners to champion work in anti-extremism.”

ADL Nevada Regional Board Chair Sam Schaul added, “We are very appreciative of the Clark County Board of County Commissioners recognizing all the hard work ADL Nevada does to fight hate & extremism. On behalf of our Regional Board and our whole organization, we look forward to continuing this work together with the Commissioners in the future.”
