The University of Alabama Jewish campus community is supported by a Hillel, Chabad, and Jewish Greek life organizations.
What’s Happening on Campus?
In May 2024, at an anti-Israel protest, protesters held signs with messages that included "USA: how do Israel's boots taste?" and "From the river to the sea."
In April 2025, Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) protested a pro-Israel student event that featured two Israeli soldiers.
University Policies and Responsive Action
The University administration regularly engages with Chabad and Hillel to ensure the safety and inclusion of Jewish students and has attended commemorative events held following the October 2023 Hamas attack on Israel.
Additionally, President Bell was honored by the White Rose Society in November 2024 for his consistent support and action with the Jewish community.
In July 2025, the University welcomed a third visit from the Consul General of Israel to the Southeast United States, along with a delegation from Ben-Gurion University. The University has also entered into an MOU with Ben-Gurion University, and the universities have jointly sponsored a seed funding program for global research cooperation.
The University provides online training that addresses harassment for all new students. Trainings regarding discrimination are provided separately for students who wish to participate in them. The University has also worked to foster civil discourse on campus, including via its Crossroads Civic Engagement Center.
Furthermore, the University has recently hosted several events organized by and for the Jewish campus community. These included an event with IDF soldiers led by UA Students Supporting Israel in April 2026, a reception welcoming the Consul General of Israel to discuss potential future partnerships in April 2026, and a Unity Dinner bringing together Jewish and Black students in March 2026.
