On Tuesday, March 14th Nevada’s Regional ADL team welcomed Monica Bauer, San Diego Associate Regional Director to educate local professionals, and share stories and best practices of community engagement around the country. That evening the Nevada ADL Young Leadership class and Board members were hosted at the Consulate of Mexico in Las Vegas for a special presentation from Monica. In her presentation, Monica shared significant historical information and facilitated a compelling conversation on the undeniable presence of anti-Semitism and the opportunities for cross-cultural partnership. Images of notable American civil rights leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks served to reinforce the power of collaboration and ADL’s mission to “secure fair treatment for all”. The following afternoon, Monica returned to the Consulate of Mexico to deliver a training to Consular staff with the intention to empower these professionals with the knowledge to help the Latino community on hate issues. The program included an overview of ADL’s mission and work, hate crime laws and the explanation of hate crimes and hate incidents. The Nevada Regional ADL team looks forward to strengthening its relationship with the Consulate of Mexico and its professionals, as well as building bridges with other members of this very diverse community.
