Santiago, Chile, March 11, 2025... – Today, ADL (the Anti-Defamation League) and the Latin American Jewish Congress (CJL), together with legislators from Colombia, Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina, and Chile, launched ALAS – the Latin American Alliance Against Antisemitism. ALAS is a regional initiative that promotes legislative measures and public policies to combat antisemitism across Latin America.
ALAS serves as a platform for cooperation among regional lawmakers, with the goal of strengthening legal frameworks, fostering education on antisemitism, and developing effective prevention strategies. This initiative aims to create a united front to reinforce shared values of democracy and human dignity.
Top legislators from five participating countries took part in the ALAS launch event, working collectively to formulate policies and legal frameworks that strengthen the fight against hate and discrimination.
“Antisemitism poses a serious threat to democracy and must be confronted with a firm coordinated response across all sectors of society. For too long, Latin America has lacked comprehensive strategies to address antisemitism. ALAS is a historic step toward ensuring that governments and authorities take concrete action—not just in words, but through laws, education, and accountability—to prevent hate from taking root and spreading,” stated Amb. Marina Rosenberg, ADL Senior Vice President of International Affairs.
“Members of national parliaments play a crucial role in shaping a pluralistic society where there is no place for antisemitism or hate,” said Claudio Epelman, Executive Director of the Latin American Jewish Congress.
