Statement: Ongoing hostage situation involving Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, Texas

Dear Community Member,

We have been monitoring what many of you have likely been following today, the horrifying hostage situation involving Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, Texas.  This is an ongoing law enforcement operation.  The FBI, along with state and local law enforcement partners, are actively attempting to resolve this situation peacefully.

On Saturday, January 15th, a man demanding the release of convicted terrorist Aafia Siddiqui, entered Congregation Beth Israel during Shabbat services and took the congregation’s rabbi and at least three others hostage. Local, state, and federal law enforcement including the FBI are on scene.  Thus far only one hostage has been released.

At present, Secure Community Network is coordinating with local, state and federal law enforcement partners.  Additionally, the Anti-Defamation League is on the ground in Colleyville to provide support to the community and is working closely with the FBI to share information from ADL’s Center on Extremism.  Locally, Las Vegas Metro Police, Henderson, Reno and Washoe County Police Departments have mobilized additional patrols in and around our synagogues and Jewish institutions.

Currently, we are not aware of any credible threats to our community.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Congregation Beth Israel.

For up-to-date information please follow ADL and SCN on Twitter.
