What Does It Mean To Be No Place For Hate?

Over the last year in particular, ADL has seen an increase in reporting on bullying and bias behavior in the classroom and school sports.  No Place For Hate gives schools a formal structure in which to create a  community where respect and acceptance is the norm. What makes a good structure? First you need  leadership in the school --  a club, group, coalition or current effort that will work throughout the school to promote understanding and inclusion for all. This is not about extra-curricular activity. It's about infusing planning for the year with events, programs and activities that will lift up school-wide awareness and engagement. There is no limit to the projects that can be accomplished. Creativity will be key as will those opportunities that work best for every unique school community. A school can't be designated until they complete all activities, working with ADL education staff along the way. The most effective No Place For Hate schools are those that keep going even after they receive a designation banner. This is not meant to be a one-off, but an ongoing chance to encourage positive impact, minimize prejudice and lift up the whole school together.
